NEURA unveils a lighter 4NE1 Gen 4 humanoid as the TUM RoboGym opens near Munich
Short answer: NEURA Robotics unveiled 4NE1 Gen 4 on 22 October 2026, a new generation of its humanoid robot that the company says is 20 percent lighter than the previous version and is being prepared for series production. The launch coincided with the opening of the TUM RoboGym, a robot training and research centre near Munich Airport run with the Technical University of Munich (TUM), according to both organisations.
According to NEURA, Gen 4 has a slimmer body covered in a black textile outer skin, upgraded hands for finer gripping, and what the company calls Smart Limbs, with reflexes built into each limb. It runs Neuron AI, which NEURA describes as a Perception-Language-Action model that combines vision, touch, force, sound and the robot's own state; the company's example is sensing whether a fastener has clicked into place. Interesting Engineering reported the same details on 23 October.
NEURA says the RoboGym covers more than 2,300 square metres at the LabCampus site. TUM says around 100 humanoid and service robots will initially learn skills there in 48 training cells, with an early focus on industrial applications and intralogistics, and that the data will flow into a curated cloud data lake for research. According to NEURA, partners from more than ten industries, including automotive, pharmaceuticals, logistics, agriculture and care, have been training workflows at the site since September, on tasks such as handling boxes, filling bottles and loading wooden parts.
The partners describe an initial three-year initiative with a combined investment of about €17 million, of which NEURA says it is contributing about €11 million. NEURA says Munich is the first of a planned network of NEURA Gyms, with more being set up in Europe, the United States and China and another in Germany with RWTH Aachen. The company says the robot was also shown at NVIDIA's GTC event in Berlin, where Agile Robots presented its Agile ONE SN humanoid. The announcements do not give a price or delivery date for 4NE1 Gen 4.
