Unitree's new H2-X humanoid loses a lower leg after a side flip at a Hangzhou conference

Short answer: A Unitree H2-X humanoid lost its balance while landing a side flip during a public demonstration in Hangzhou last week, and its right lower leg came off at the joint, TechNode reported on 26 October. The incident happened at the 2026 World Physical AI Conference and Unitree Robotics Partner Ecosystem Conference, a day after the robot was unveiled, according to the outlet. Attendees filmed it and the footage spread across social media.

According to TechNode, the robot was performing martial-arts-style moves on a cushioned mat when it failed to stabilise on landing and fell sideways. As of TechNode's report, Unitree had not issued a public response or explained the cause, and had not disclosed any investigation findings. We did not find a company statement either.

Unitree launched the H2-X on 21 October with the slogan "Kung Fu Legend: Guardian" and positions it for security patrols, emergency rescue and other protective work, TechNode said. Unitree claims a battery life of around eight hours, compared with about three hours for the standard H2. The robot's promotional video, which showed it denting car doors and lifting the front of a vehicle, was covered in our earlier trending report. More Unitree coverage is in the Unitree hub.
